IVF Options has compiled a database of free and low cost fertility consultations with reproductive endocrinologists to make IVF treatment more affordable and accessible to those without insurance coverage.
While IVF coverage varies greatly by state, most insurance providers across the US cover the initial consultation and some diagnostic testing of fertility treatment. If you do not have insurance coverage, or your insurance provider will not cover the initial consultation, getting a free consultation with a fertility specialist is a great way to better understand what testing you will need and what the different treatment options are in more detail.
In a free initial consultation, you will meet with the physician in their office with your partner and review any relevant testing or treatment history, as well as treatment options. Free consultations do not include diagnostic testing such as blood work, semen analysis, ultrasounds or scans. Most fertility clinics will offer you the option to have these done at your first consultation, which can be billed to your general insurance. If you have a co-pay through your insurance, you will be responsible for paying that to the lab, not the clinic.
The reason that tests are recommended in the initial consultation is so the doctor can get an in depth understanding of what may be causing your issues, to provide you with a treatment plan and prescription. Most test results are valid for 12 months, meaning if you’ve been to your primary care doctor, OBGYN or other fertility clinic, you can forward those test results to the clinic prior to your consultation for the new fertility specialist to review.
Without our free consultation options, fertility consultations generally range from $300 to $1,000 depending on the physician.
